What is your position in Villas Salobre and how long have you been working in it?

I am the head receptionist of Villas Salobre and I have been working for the Satocan group for four years now.

What do you like most of Gran Canaria?

I love the climate of Gran Canaria because it doesn’t rain a lot and it’s much warmer than the country where I come from (Germany). I also like going to the wonderful beaches that Gran Canaria has, and of course the people. I try not to spend a day off without going to the beach and hanging out with my good friends. 

Which place of Gran Canaria do you like the most?

A typical event of the island of Gran Canaria which I like and is a “must go” event for me is the “Vará del Pescao” which is celebrated every last Friday of August in the beach of Arinaga.

The “Vará Del Pescao” is one of the most remarkable events in the beach of Arinaga (Agüimes). It’s a sea party where 300 kg of fish is grilled and shared among the assistants. This party has its origins in 1995, year when the event started. The main objective is to bring the art of fishing of the Canarian ancestors to the assistants, remembering how they fished. The traditional fishermen brought shells with them as a claim to make people buy fish. The party starts with folkloric groups singing and dancing on the beach, and ends with a great party.

Grilled fish is shared among the assistants, who are decked out with traditional dresses and are accompanied by music bands and folk groups. There is also a wide range of cultural, recreational and sport events for the occasion like bowling, chess, concerts, running competitions and much more!

It’s a different event in which you surely always have a good time; even my brother who came from Germany last year had a great time there!

What do you like of Villas Salobre?

I like working in Villas Salobre because I love to work with the relaxed views over the golf course, which creates a relaxed and calm atmosphere in the reception. I also like working with Salobre’s warm and friendly personnel.
